Coby Edmondstone is Darwin Cricket News & Scores Player of Round 1 for his first up performance of 4 for 23 and 38 against reigning Premiers Southern Districts. On the completion of each major round, we’ll select a player from the competition overall, they’ll get “The Perfect Pitch”.
Firstly, congrats on a big win first up, how'd it feel to knock over the reigning premiers and sing the song at the Pass?
It felt really good to be able to get the first win on the board. It made it even better that it was against districts. They are always a tough team to come up against, but I thought all our lads were quite happy to get the wood over them round 1.
You played your first season in Victoria for Camberwell, and what I think is your 6th or 7th season on the trot at least, how were the Pies and how'd you find Vic cricket in comparison to WA prems?
I enjoyed my season in Vic. I wasn’t a huge fan of the weather but everyone at Camberwell made me feel part of the club from day 1. Vic cricket definitely presented some different challenges to WA. Wickets are a bit softer and uneven compared to Perth, and the bowlers seem to be just a little quicker. But all in all, fairly similar.
PINT are building a pretty good nucleus to challenge sided this year, who do you rate to be the big improvers in your side?
The pint lads are feeling pretty good coming into each game. We have a fair few returning players this season, but Faz and Dools are definitely two that I think will build upon their successful season last year in NT.
What are the major changes you've seen in the DDCC for better or worse?
Probably the changes that I’ve seen are the import rules. I feel like the imports rules at the moment are pretty good, I know it took a couple years to get the mix right. But think it’s almost spot on.
Anything you've thought of that could improve the comp?
Nothing to note.
There's been a behind the scenes push to go all one-day cricket up here, what are your thoughts on that?
I am a fan of that. The way in which the world is going, white ball is young cricketers’ way into the system. But I think in Darwin, there’s more involvement from locals in the white ball formats that red ball.
And lastly, where's the best place to start on Mitchell St and who would you mostly likely see there?
I don’t think you can really beat a pre club drink at tap bar. I reckon I always bump into a few of the Darwin CC lads there when I go.
Thank you, Coby!
